Midnight Video 16

Swinging in on the latest vine Midnight Video 16 sees us ponder over a jungle isolationist and his reaction to his quiet life being interrupted by the pesky Third Reich in Tarzan Triumphs.  We then find ourselves in contemporary Greece; sweating and listless in a dimly lit brothel tapping out the hits of Abba in Hardcore before finally flinging ourselves into a vision of the future where newborns are illegal, smog is the dominant forecast and disembodied voices order people around in Z.P.G.

The Art of Midnight Video by a listener

Listener and A-Z contributor, Rich Sampson has kindly provided us with a lunch time drawing 'inspired' by this very podcast.  Probably best to leave it open to interpretation.

Midnight Video 15

Jim's social life is hectic and I'm off to France for a week tomorrow so we thought it would  be the right and just thing to release show 15 a little earlier than usual.

This week Midnight Video go in search of poetry and parents in The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, before tag teaming up for a bout of erotic wrestling with The Case of the Bloody Iris and round things off as witnesses in an animal court in The Tale of the Fox.

Midnight Video 14

Show 14 hits the digiwaves a tad earlier this week as Jim is on hols and I'm going to be starting this in a few hours.

This week sees Midnight Video delving into the animated and live action wonders of the Eastern Bloc with the Terry Gilliam-inspiring Baron Prasil, then we catch the next cannonball west into the forests of France to follow the exploits of two urban fish out of water with IP5 before dipping into the Mediterranean in search of the most infamous Hollywood couple ever to grace the silver screen in Boom!

Supplemental material will be available via Facebook page and here on the blog.

T-shirts - Model's own

Here are some pics of family Walsh modelling the Midnight Video tees (child sizes unavailable sadly).

Show 13 competition

If you've listened to show 13 then you will know that the opportunity to win a Midnight Video t-shirt has presented itself.
Designed by our very good friend Richard Wells this frankly incredible design features five characters and an element from some of our favourite films that we've reviewed so far for the podcast.
To be a proud owner of one of these magnificent garments, simply identify the characters (and element) and email your answers to midnightvideo@hotmail.co.uk - good luck!

Thirteen.  Unlucky for some, but I think you lucky listeners are in for a right old treat as Midnight Video cleans out its cupboards/closets for Skeletons, adjusts the dials for La Antena before we finally mist up for Prayer of the Rollerboys.
Also this week there's a chance for one lucky listener to get their mitts on the first official piece of Midnight Video merchandise in the shape of a t-shirt.

Channel Four Films

An excerpt from John Caughie's book Television Drama: Realism, Modernism and British Culture, which brilliantly highlights how ground breaking and important Channel Four Films were in their approach of making films for the UK televisual audience.

Tsai Ming-Liang clears things up for Jim

Jim!  This will explain everything you missed in the film.  Not sure why the interviewer appears to be sketching his interviewees.

Buddy Giovinazzo's Hellscape

Very, very chuffed to have found this criminally short Q & A with the writer/director of Combat Shock Buddy Giovinazzi.
Those of you who are lucky enough to be attending this year's Frightfest in London will have the opportunity to see the man himself as he talks about a new project that he's undertaken with Tom Savini, Richard Stanley and more.

Doctor prescribes watermelon

As fate would have it I managed to find an article that combines Paper Mask and The Wayward Cloud - sadly no mention of Vietnam vets though:

Quackery

The Musical McGanns

Here is proof to back up my bold claim that The Mcgann brothers indulged in some pop ditties.

Sadly there's a lack of interesting posters for Paper Mask, but the French title of The Wayward Cloud when translated is the less ambiguous; The Flavour of the Watermelon and the Combat Shock poster is one of the most magnificently misleading peices of cover art that I've ever seen.

Midnight Video 12

And so we find ourselves together once again.  Tangoing in the moonlight and sipping obscene cocktails as the sun rises.  Well to be fair if you're planning on doing that then maybe this podcast isn't for you, or maybe it is?

Show 12 sees us scrutinising the standards of early the early 90s National Health Service in Paper Mask before winging it to Taiwan for a slice of melon and some bottle top searching in The Wayward Cloud.  We then cross the pond and flit between the Indochina nightmares and Staten Island hallucinations of Combat Shock.
In addition to the reviews we have; feedback, competition time and more details about The A-Z of Film through Midnight Video.
